Verescence, a global leader in luxury glass packaging for the perfumery and cosmetics industry, reached a new milestone in its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets.
Following the initial validation of its GHG emissions reduction targets in 2022 by SBTi under the “Well Below 2°C” (WB2C) scenario, Verescence has raised its ambitions to align with the 1.5°C trajectory following the strictest requirements of the Paris Agreement.
Thomas Riou, CEO of Verescence, said,
“Our teams have worked to align our decarbonization roadmap with the ambition of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C. To meet these targets, we will implement widespread electrification across many of our processes in all our facilities – furnaces, feeders, and lehrs – and utilize green gas. We are also supporting our suppliers in reducing their carbon footprints.”
The SBTi has now validated these updated targets, confirming that they align with the latest climate science.
Verescence commits to reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 63.7% by 2034 from a 2019 base year. Verescence also commits to reducing absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities, and upstream transportation and distribution by 37.5% within the same timeframe.
