Stockton police investigating after man, 46, and woman, 22, shot dead hours apart

Two people died in separate fatal shootings Saturday night within roughly three miles of one another, bringing out Stockton detectives for the 43rd and 44th investigations this year.

The first shooting happened at about 6:33 p.m. near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Aurora Street, according to the Stockton Police Department.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 46-year-old man who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The second shooting happened at about 8:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Fremont Street.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 22-year-old woman who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

A spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately respond to a request Sunday to identify both of the victims.

While the circumstances behind the homicides are under investigation, the police department did not release any suspect information or provide a motive for the shootings. In a watch commander’s report, police did not indicate the two incidents were related.

Anyone with information about either homicide is urged to call the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377, the Investigations Unit at (209) 937-8323, or Stockton Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600.
