Oneida County corrections officer injured, hospitalized after attack by inmate

An Oneida County Sheriff’s corrections officer was hospitalized after he was attacked by an incarcerated Lee Center man, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Tuesday, April 1, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said deputies from the Road Patrol Division were dispatched to the Oneida County Correctional Facility located in the town of Whitestown regarding an assault investigation.

Following an investigation, deputies determined that during the morning meal service, the correction officer was attempting to serve the inmate his breakfast tray when the inmate kicked his cell door open, causing the door to strike the officer.

It was further learned that the inmate had struck the corrections officer in the head with a closed fist multiple times, deputies said.

The officer was subsequently transported to Oneida Hospital where he was diagnosed with a closed head injury.
