I’ve always had a sweet tooth. When I was a little kid, few things brought me more joy than finding a Jell-O chocolate pudding cup in my lunch box. The rich, chocolate flavor and fun, jiggly texture was unmatched, and could instantly brighten a boring school day.
Flash forward to today: While I’m not lactose-intolerant, I prefer drinking non-dairy milk. Oat milk is my preferred choice for cooking, blending in a smoothie, or foaming in a latte. It’s so creamy, despite containing zero cream.
And luckily for me, Jell-O just launched its first ever plant-based pudding made with none other than (you guessed it) oat milk. As a self-described connoisseur of all things plant-based, I was curious to see just how it compared to the OG pudding. So I secured myself a pudding cup and got to sampling.

What You Should Know About Jell-O Oat Milk Chocolate Pudding
Jell-O’s Oat Milk Chocolate Pudding is 125 years in the making. (Yes, you read that right.) The company launched its first ever chocolate pudding in the 1930s, and added the new Oat Milk Chocolate Pudding as a permanent addition to its flavor lineup this April.
The decision comes after an uptick in milk and lactose allergies, especially in kids, and a clear gap in the market. In fact, Jell-O’s new pudding isn’t just a first for the brand — it’s the first plant-based, lactose-free pudding by a mainstream brand in the industry. Period. As shoppers continue to look for plant-based alternatives, it’s only natural for Jell-O to want to keep up with changes in their diet and preferences.

To replicate its OG pudding, the R&D team “explored a variety of options before ultimately landing on oat milk for the base, given its creamy texture and mild flavor,” says Lauren Gumbiner, associate director of marketing desserts at The Kraft Heinz Company (Jell-O’s parent company).
Jell-O’s Oat Milk Chocolate Pudding is available at retailers nationwide, including Kroger and Meijer, in four-packs for $3.99. You can also purchase it at select retailers online.

My Honest Review of Jell-O Oat Milk Chocolate Pudding
I haven’t had a pudding cup in a long time, but one spoonful in and I was instantly brought back to my lunch period in elementary school.
The Oat Milk Chocolate Pudding tastes nearly identical to the original, IMO. It has the same thick, jiggly consistency that holds its shape on a spoon with a glossy sheen. It’s silky-smooth and creamy with a rich, chocolaty flavor. In fact, it was only until I finished the entire cup that I tasted a slight oat milk flavor. Visually, I couldn’t tell the difference either.

Overall I’d say it’s spot-on and a great option for kids (or adults) — whether they have an allergy or not. While chocolate is currently the only option, I’m curious to see what pudding flavor will get the plant-based treatment next.
