Apr. 26—JAMESTOWN — A 73-year-old man escaped with minor injuries in a single-vehicle rollover involving a fuel truck Saturday, April 26, in northwest Jamestown, according to Lt. Andrew Staska with the Jamestown Police Department.

The 73-year-old Jamestown man, who was not identified, was driving a 2007 Freightliner fuel truck east on 4th Street Northwest at about 9:20 a.m. and was approaching another truck traveling westbound on the same street. Staska said the fuel truck moved toward the shoulder to create space for the trucks to pass each other and the tires of the fuel truck went off the roadway and into the shoulder. He said the driver was unable to steer the truck back onto the road and the soft shoulder caused the truck to get pulled off the roadway further. He said a steep embankment caused the fuel truck to roll multiple times, coming to rest on its driver’s side.

The fuel truck was not fully loaded but was transporting about 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel, which was leaking from an overflow valve on the top of the tank, Staska said. The amount of fuel leaked has not been determined.

Due to the emergency response, investigation and recovery of the truck, 4th Street Northwest was closed for about three hours, and traffic was rerouted, Staska said.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, Stutsman County Emergency Management, Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown Area Ambulance, Jamestown Street Department and Gordon’s Interstate Towing and Recovery also assisted at the scene.
