Genshin Impact sets new record for fastest mobile game to $5B

Genshin Impact has reached a new milestone, passing $5 billion in consumer spending according to data.ai. Mihoyo’s cross-platform juggernaut debuted 40 months ago in September 2020. It is the 13th title to reach $5 billion in combined consumer spending through the iOS App Store and Google Play.

While several other mobile games have reached $5 billion in player spending, Genshin Impact is the fastest to do so. Clash of Clans previously held the record, reaching $5 billion in 51 months. Additionally, Gardenscapes was the most recent game to pass $5 billion, but it took the title 91 months to do so.

China continues to be a key market for Genshin Impact, even when excluding third-party Android stores. China’s iOS version brought in nearly $1.5 billion alone, accounting for 30% of all consumer spending on the game. Japan is Mihoyo’s next largest market with close to $1.06 billion or about 21% of consumer spending. The U.S. rounds out the game’s top three markets, earning $903 million or 18% of consumer spending.

While this is a major accomplishment for Mihoyo, the pace of player spending could be slowing down. Sensor Tower claimed the Genshin Impact earned $3.7 billion in its first two years, though the firm’s methodologies differ.
