Bath & Body Works Apologizes for Seasonal Candle Label Design

Bath & Body Works has pulled its “Snowed In” festive candle because the label’s design resembled uniforms worn by the Ku Klux Klan. The retailer also issued an apology for the design.

Online, the three-wick candle was named Klandel or the KKKandle because the folded snowflake cutout had a pair of cutout holes and pointed snowflake tips.

Comments on TikTok, X, and Reddit have sparked a debate on whether the label’s design is more resemblant to the KKK or nostalgic child-made Christmas decorations.

People have posted videos and Reddit threads which have reached nearly one million views and 300 comments.

Following this controversy, BBW issued the following apology,

“At Bath & Body Works, we are committed to listening to our teams and customers, and committed to fixing any mistakes we make – even those that are unintentional like this one,” the retailer said in an emailed statement to several news outlets. We apologize to anyone we’ve offended and are swiftly working to have this item removed and are evaluating our process going forward.”

The candle has been removed from its physical and online stores. However, the candle is now being sold on eBay for $375.
