The latest Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) report shows builders’ merchants’ value sales (takings) in January down 2.3% compared to the same month in 2024.
Volumes were flat, year on year, but prices slipped by 2.3%.
Compared to December, January takings were up by nearly 34%. However, with five additional trading days in January, like-for-like sales were up by only 3.5%.
Over the 12-month period of February 2024 to January 2025, bother takings and sales volumes were down 4.1%.
“January wasn’t the strong start builders’ merchants and building materials suppliers been hoping for,” said Mike Rigby, managing director of MRA Research, which produces the monthly BMBI report for the Builders Merchant Federation.
