One person was killed in an overnight officer-involved shooting in Edmond.
Emily Ward, Edmond Police public information officer, said police received a request for a welfare check at 1901 Three Stars Road just before 11 p.m. Friday.
“The caller stated that an unknown subject was on their balcony,” Ward said. “Officers arrived and located a subject. An officer-involved shooting occurred and the subject is deceased.”
Ward said no other information was available for release at this time.
The Edmond incident follows an officer-involved shooting in Mustang that also involved a welfare or wellness check.
A Mustang police officer shot and killed a man about 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening during a wellness check. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said the man, identified as Juan Barbosa, 41, refused to obey verbal commands and began advancing on the officer near Mustang Road and SW 89.
Officers on the scene attempted life-saving measures but the man died, according to an OSBI news release.
Mustang Police Department requested the assistance of OSBI to help investigate. Authorities have not yet released any details about the shooting. News9 reported that the man’s family said he was unarmed and had a mental health episode.
This is a developing story.
